Dr. Guven Kiymaz joined Florida Polytechnic University in August 2024 as an assistant professor of civil engineering. Prior to this, he was associate teaching professor at Seattle University, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing the structural engineering curriculum. With over 15 years of academic and industry experience, his work primarily focuses on the behavior and design of steel structures, emphasizing seismic performance and structural resilience.

Kiymaz’s research has led to numerous collaborations with industry and academia, particularly in developing advanced numerical modeling techniques to improve the understanding of structural behavior under various loading conditions. His current research includes investigating the seismic performance of steel storage rack systems, which has significant implications for both the safety and efficiency of industrial storage solutions.

While at Seattle University, Kiymaz directed the Structural Engineering Design Laboratory and contributed to the M.S. program in structural engineering. He also played a key role in establishing partnerships with industry, which resulted in the development of state-of-the-art testing facilities. His efforts not only advanced the research capabilities of the institution but also provided students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge engineering practices.
